Three years after his death, the life of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld is being made into a film. The film tells the life story and career of arguably the greatest designer of his time. It describes the most important relationships in the life of Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February 2019 at the age of 85.
Oscar winner Jared Leto stars and produces. You can’t imagine a more challenging and difficult role. The Hollywood superstar and the designer knew each other personally, so Jared Leto will also be able to draw from his own memories and not only embody a man of the century who was admired all over the world, but also represent a very idiosyncratic, brilliant and never quite comprehensible character.
Jared Leto won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Dallas Buyers Club.” More recently, he has been seen as one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and versatile character actors, among other things, as the star of cult films such as »House of Gucci« about the Italian fashion dynasty. As a producer, he last appeared in 2019 on the documentary »A Day in the Life of America«.
The exact release date in 2023 has not yet been determined, because no director has yet been found. The project is supported by the company Karl Lagerfeld. Three of Lagerfeld’s closest associates are involved in the production: his longtime communications advisor Caroline Lebar, Maison Karl Lagerfeld CEO Pier Paolo Righi, and Sébastien Jondeau, who was Lagerfeld’s chauffeur, bodyguard, assistant and close confidant.
In addition, Karl Lagerfeld will receive other very special tributes in the coming year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is dedicating a gigantic exhibition to him under the title “Karl Lagerfeld – A Line of Beauty” and the world-famous Met Gala will dedicate its opening on May 1, 2023 entirely to the sign of his work.
