Rene Staud usually sets up the setting with the classic car, and the hero car, the new car, is only added at the very end for the final exposure. As a by-product of the classic cars, he often ends up with cool pictures in a contemporary context, with the possibility of putting together an old vs. new for the customer later on.
And on the day of the shoot, everything was driven to the location the night before – the new car, the old car, all the equipment. It was soon three o’clock in the morning and the shoot was due to start at half past five in the morning. Everything was set up in the garden – and then a very heavy thunderstorm came. So the shooting day was cancelled for the time being, which is why everyone stayed in bed in the morning. But Rene Staud is an early riser! He got up and went outside – and saw this car costing millions. The Maserati was standing there exactly as it is in the picture. Soaking wet. A car that hadn’t seen a drop of water for fifty years. No one would ever put it outside. But now it had happened. And he had to make a picture out of it. Absolutely!
The N°1 in Zash – Sicily in September 2014 – Early in the morning at five, after a rain shower, the Maserati and Rene Staud all alone.
