Grob-Motoriker: Porsche 911 Dakar
Ferry Porsche once knew: "The 911 is the only car you can drive from an African safari to Le Mans, then to the theatre and then onto the streets of New York." With the 911 Dakar, limited to 2,500 units, Porsche is renewing this old promise. We take a look at its most important details – and the three official posters designed by ramp.

The chassis: All respect – or rather 80 millimetres. This 911 has exactly this ground clearance on request. And in terms of off-road capability, it is on a par with classic SUVs. As standard, the car has 50 millimetres more ground clearance than the 911 Carrera with sports suspension, but can also be raised by a further three centimetres. The rally and off-road driving modes, which are also available, are also combined with Pirelli’s specially developed off-road tyres. So you arrive. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Africa or in front of the theatre.

The drivetrain: As usual, the 911 Dakar relies on a six-cylinder boxer engine. The latter is ventilated with a biturbo and produces 480 hp, which is delivered to all four wheels via an eight-speed PDK. In addition, it also has rear-axle steering – and the engine mounts also known from the GT3. To sum up: Only the best for off-road fun. Or on the Nordschleife. Anyone who thinks that the Dakar would be far too high and cumbersome anyway: at 1,605 kilograms, it weighs only ten kilograms more than a 911 Carrera 4 GTS. So much – or little – about it.

The roof rack: It is well known that the 911 has always been practical. For a sports car, of course. If you want as much space as possible, buy a van. Or now the Dakar: Without a rear seat, but with the optionally available roof rack and roof tent, the “utility” is taken here to the power of two. Literally. Either you take up residence on the roof yourself on the road trip – or load up on all the necessary things. Additional headlights on the basket? Of course, they are also integrated. Brilliant prospects, then.

The style: Porsche takes us back to 1984. And no, this is not about George Orwell’s dystopia, but about the unmistakable style of perhaps the best decade ever – the eighties. Based on the iconic Rothmans livery of the 953, Porsche also offers customers the Rally Design Package. Said 953 was the first 911 with all-wheel drive to win the Dakar. The Rallye Sport package with roll bar, six-point harnesses and fire extinguisher is also available as an option. We’re off at this point – and enjoy boxer rumblings and synth pop in the sand.

The posters: But there is one more thing. To be more precise: the new limited poster set developed by ramp space magazine together with Porsche. It stages the 911 Dakar in its element in dune surfing. Thanks to its strong motifs, high-quality printing and exclusive poster finishing, the 911 Dakar immediately fascinates away from the track.
