SAGA Space Architects, a Copenhagen-based architecture and engineering firm, designed the next-generation, state-of-the-art lunar simulation habitat called FLEXHab, which was installed alongside the LUNA facility. The architects wanted to create a comfortable living space in an extreme environment by utilising artificial intelligence and sensor technology.
SAGA chose Alcantara for the communal area and the laboratory. The common area of the habitat is intended for the crew’s leisure activities, such as breaks, meals and social moments. The benches in the colour Bohemian embellish the space and create an inviting atmosphere. The laboratory is a flexible workspace for which the colour Ice was chosen. The Alcantara-covered wall panels help to create an enveloping and soft environment that is pleasant to the touch.
